Teachers – the link between knowledge and education.
My understanding is, every educator/trainer has his own unique
style of teaching & delivering of lessons. Wherein, I found most of my
school & college teachers made me feel sick. But, the only teacher Dr.
Catherine Dinesh; one of my class teachers during my grade 6th & 7th and also my English teacher for two
consecutive years is my all-time favorite. I always carried desires to attend
her classes, kept eagerly waiting for her lessons, loved to listen to her
voice, her amazing unique accent, the perfect pronunciation, adding every day numerous new words to my dictionary & her various class activities. The
fragrance she used to sprinkle by her energetic astonishing body language,
confidence, her attires, nature, characteristics, demeanor, etc. is salient
& truly unique. I miss her teachings & her absence.
I never felt that I was in a classroom because, the way she used
to deliver lessons and her teachings, never made me feel that I am a student
and she is my teacher. She always made me feel like a friend and her classes
were filled with fun. She used to make students read every paragraph and used
to clarify new & difficult words and explained every paragraph in the
simplest form. Most of the students liked her style of teaching and her class
activities always motivated, encouraged me and she was always supportive. She
has been a great inspiration to me. Every time my students appreciate my
classes and teachings, I always remember her and thank her in my heart. I have
learnt tremendous academic and non-academic lessons from her and I wish, “I
could turn as a school student again & attend her classes every day”.
Whenever I am unable to handle difficult session/s; I always
recollect her sayings, her style of handling any kind of student/s and tackling
the most difficult situation in the class or it may be any lesson. She used to
make every tough situation look very simple and always carried the sweetest
smile on her face. Dr. Catherine is a great teacher because, she is a great humanitarian,
friendly, always cheerful, ambitious, all the time energetic, multi-talented,
resourceful in her teachings & subject of expert and eloquent. I remember
one of her greatest statements during one of the school programs, when one of
the parents asked her, “What makes you one of the famous teachers”? With her
sweet smile, she said, “A great teacher learns, teaching is a dynamic skill,
needs regular retraining & refreshing, is always open for feedback and
works on it regularly”.
Efficacious qualities I found and liked in her are :
Regularly she used to have one-to-one sessions with students and
their respective parents. Her main theme was the students’ development. I always
put in my best efforts to incorporate her qualities & techniques of
teaching. I have forgotten all my school and college books, but I still
remember the majority of the things my favorite teacher had said & taught. It is
said that “Students will forget what the books taught, but they will never
forget what the teachers said”. I truly wish that one fine day I will be
just like her and my teachings will brighten up all my students’ future.
Sometimes in some of my classes, I talk about my favorite teacher with my
students and I feel the tears in my eyes.
A world without teachers is a world that does not exist. My sincere
thanks to all my teachers who have helped me survive. Today I am proud to be
a teacher and I follow, “Teaching is not a service, profession or a job – it is
a pillar of the society”.
